Keys to the Garden: Lessons From Surah Yasin

Keys to the Garden: Lessons From Surah Yasin

‘Surely everything has a heart, and the heart of the Qur’an is Yasin. I would love that it be in the heart of every person of my people.’ (Bazzar)

Like the heart is to the human body, Surah Yasin carries the essential pulse of the Qur’an, affirming the central foundations of faith. It shakes the hearts with proofs of the Oneness of Allah, the Prophethood of Rasulallah (Peace Be Upon Him and His Family), and vivid reminders of the Hereafter.

Often recited at the time of death, Surah Yasin is as vitally important to the living. Without having its message beating in our own heart, we cannot fully understand and implement the meanings of the entire Qur’an. Without its pulse, seeking nearness to Allah will feel distant, for it is by the means of the Qur’an, and through the Qur’an, that this nearness can be achieved.

Surah Yasin presents us with pictures of the undeniable reality of the afterlife, standing before our Creator on the Day of Reckoning, a warning for those who reject truth and a glad tiding for those who accept it. It reminds us not only of where we are and where we will go, but most importantly where we need to go, giving us the keys to achieving salvation.
